The lake has been lightly fished this year. We have over the last couple of years seen an unprecedented level of flooding, which we are investigating along with the EA and Surrey Council and is still ongoing. Mostly happens in the colder winter months, when footfall is usually lighter. The club is also investigating to fit winter level platforms, initially on the Moor bank for appraisal and function.
November 2024 saw an additional 5 Mirror carp stocked from Heather fisheries (Mark Simmonds). These fish were great lookers, and Mark`s fish have a reputation for growing well. These ranged from 12lb to 14.5lb. We estimate this brings the carp stock to between 40-50 fish which in 1.7 acres is a healthy level for both growth and welfare. With at least 3 fish over 30lb and many middle to high 20`s this will become a great group of fish in the coming years. With a light feeding program in spring, summer and autumn, we aim to grow healthy good looking fish.
The aerator has been on standby but not needed this year and we continue to monitor the dissolved oxygen levels regularly.
Weed has as always been a problem, and without the manpower/volunteers to continually rake it out, we have had to look at an alternative solution. This spring will see an introduction of a lake dye to reduce light penetration through the water. This should help to prevent the weed from growing as much. This is a trial period of 1 yr. to see what improvements we get. We don’t want to kill it completely, just a 50% reduction would be ideal. This will be backed up by a Siltex (calcium carbonate) application later in the winter.
